Fünf Flüsse

Introduction

The Fünf-Flüsse (“Five Rivers”) Cycle Route is a varied circuit through the heart of Bavaria, which offers typical images of this region. (Quoted from Wikipedia.) Bikeline‘s estimate of the distance is 311Km.

Our plan was to cycle the distance in 5.5 days (average 57Km/day) without rest days. In reality, I cycled 373Km  in 5.5 days (average of 68Km/day).

The Good, the bad and the ugly

  • good: railway line converted to cycle path from Schmidmühlen to Amberg (Alexis)
  • good: beautiful Ludwig Maximillian canal (Alexis)
  • good: good for beginners (Suzie)
  • bad: camp select degraded over last years: a very good one closed; another now overrun with barrels; no on-site shops (Alexis & Suzie)
