Vltava

Introduction

This is a self-made route of 1088Km covering three countries (Czechia, Austria, Germany), three rivers (the Berounka from Plzeň to Prague, the Vltava from Prague to its source in the Šumava national park, the Danube from Obermuehl an der Donau to Deggendorf and the Isar from Deggendorf to Munich), several castles (Jindřichův Hradec, Červená Lhota, Český Krumlov) and passing several famous breweries (Pilner Urquell, Krušovice, Budvar, Březňák).

Our plan was to cycle the distance in 17.5 days (average 62Km/day) and to rest for 3 days in Roudná (close to Jindřichův Hradec), Český Krumlov, Horní Vltavice (on a loop passing the source of the Vltava river). In reality, we cycled 1102Km in 17.5 days (average 63Km/day).

The Good, the bad and the ugly

  • good: beautiful towns and beautiful scenery! (Alexis)
  • good: seems to be a unknown route, so if you don’t like tourists this one’s for you 🙂 (Alexis)
  • good: impressive dams! (Alexis)
  • bad: campsites on the German section (Alexis)
  • bad: less swimming possibilities than anticipated (Suzie)
