Introduction

This is a half-self-made/half-Bikeline-made route of 1120Km based on firstly getting from a railway station with good night-train connections (Hannover) to Lüneburger Heide, then the Mecklenburgischer Seen-Radweg (a version of which we had cycled ten years before), a small excursion to Szczecin in Poland and finally the Berlin-Usedom-Radweg in reverse.

Our plan was to cycle the distance in 19 days (average 59Km/day) and to rest for 3.5 days in Amelinghausen (from where we wanted to visit Lüneburger Heide), Tollensee (from where we wanted to visit Neubrandenburg), Świnoujście (that was the half day) and Blankensee (from where we wanted to visit Szczecin).

In reality, we cycled 1155Km (average 61Km/day).

The Good, the bad and the ugly

  • good: lots of lakes and swimming (Suzie)
  • good: some pretty towns like Ludwigslust, Neubrandenburg, Szczecin (Suzie)
  • good: generally good campsites (Suzie)
  • bad: some bad cycle paths with cobbles and headwind (Suzie)
