Introduction
This is a self-made route of 693km, based on our earlier CZ-SK-HU trip, our earlier Elbe trip and our earlier Sieben Flüsse trip, covering twenty-three waterways (the Vltava, the Rokytka, Vinořský Potok, the Elbe, (cz: Labe) the Opatovický kanál, the Hatina, the Jizerka, the Jizera, Kapaninský Potok, Hrádecký Potok, Dračí Potok, the Zlatnik, the Kamenice, Smržovský Potok, the Lučanská Nisa, the Lužická Nisa, the Mandau, the Landwasser, the Spree, the Chřibská Kamenice, the Bystrá, the Ploučnice, the Ohře), including three river sources (the Elbe spring in the Krkonoše Mountains, one of the Spree springs in Neugersdorf in the Lusatian Highlands and the Mandau near Nové Křečany).
Our plan was to cycle the distance in 15 days (average 46km/day) and to rest for 3 days Špindlerův Mlýn (to hike up to the source of the Elbe), Liberec (to explore the city) and Roudnice nad Labem (to cycle a loop around via Terezin and the Elbe/Ohře confluence at Litoměřice).
In reality, we cycled the distance in 15 days and cycled 722Km (average 48Km/day).
The Good, the bad and the ugly
- good: beautiful Czech towns on the Elbe north-east of Prague (Suzie and Alexis)
- good: generally good cycling paths (Suzie and Alexis)
- good: really excellent rest-days (Suzie & Alexis)
- bad: Prague trains packed! buy reservations for selves and bikes! (Alexis)
- ugly: Pod Jedlovou campsite reneged their offer of accomodation forcing us, late in the day, to cycle an extra 22km to the very nice Autokemp Jetřichovice (Alexis)
